A one week stay in the small city of Kotka, hosted by friends met on a student exchange the previous year. Here’s something I wanted to share from that experience.

First of all, having friends abroad is a priceless privilege. Especially if you’ve never been to their country before. That allowed me to get to know the place from a perspective of a local, which is difficult to achieve otherwise.

One more privilege I got was my “host family”. Luckily for me, they were already bilingual, speaking both Finnish and English, as it’s formed by a marriage of a Finn with a Filipino.

I couldn’t have had it any better.
