You astutely point out that capitalism is America’s one true god. But if we must credit capitalism and it’s money-grubbing spirit for Nike’s move on Kaepernick, then we must also concede that the same applies to Nike’s exploitation of workers. This god doesn’t pick sides, and Nike wouldn’t be where it is today without acting fully within the spirit of capitalism.
Maybe the story of Kap underlines an obvious truth. That the spirit of capitalism is sustained by the collective voice of humanity — our prayers if you will. Today, Kap’s voice is loudest, harnessed by your writing, amplified by my likes.
