Golf is a game I am unfamiliar with, but marketing is something I am. As I have researched

Golf is a game I am unfamiliar with, but marketing is something I understand. There seems to be a correlation with how well a golf course does in comparison with its social media expertise. Here are some tips on how to step up your digital marketing game.

Upgrade Your Website!

When looking at the most known golf courses around the United States, all have one thing in common… a phenomenal website. Pinehurst is an excellent example. They have a professional look that grips you in as soon as you open the page. The quick links they use are all organized with explanations that arent too dry and keep the user interested. I found that when I was navigating their website, I kept looking through their other sections just to see the little facts they had about each thing they offered.

Fancy Pics=More Likes

Everybody is on social media nowadays (so it seems) and we all strive for that “most liked” picture. Keith Hills is a golf course around my University, and although they have a wonderful course, it is not showcased as well as it could on social media. If you go look at their profile on instagram, it has several pictures that look like they were taken with an iPhone. Then go to Pinehurst and look at their profile. It is filled with professional pictures ranging from incredible angles, people enjoying themselves, fancy drinks, epic fairway shots, professional golfers making appearances, historical pictures, and so on. The more breathtaking the photo, the more people are going to double tap on the pictures!

But Wait, There’s More!

Running a golf course is going to be a challenge. You have people tearing up the grass constantly, the grass literally growing all the time, hungry golfers… wait a second…FOOD! They need food! When visiting the social media and websites of many world famous golf courses, I found that each of them prides themselves on more than just the golf course. After all you work up an appetite playing and you are already at such a nice place, so why not take the time and eat if it is there right? When there is more to offer than just one thing, it will draw in a bigger crowd. Some people may go for the golf, others maybe the food, but whatever it is your course has to offer other than golf… show it off on all your media platforms!

These are a few key things that I think can help your golf course’s social media presence. When you perfect your website, hire a professional photographer, and showcase the little things, you will be better than those who aren’t going the extra mile. Welcome to the digital age!
