What is the Future world with Artificial Intelligence?
Is AI going to rule the world?
Is AI going to make humans jobless?
Are we going to live in a world like sci-fi movies (like I.Robot, Minority Report…)?
Well, not exactly but our day to day life is going to include with some sort of AI technology, irrespective of individuals or businesses. Already we started to adopting AI into our life, simple examples would be Apple Siri, Google assistant. And we are working on towards self-driving cars and so. So, how is AI going to help or trouble world in the future, let’s see…..
“Artificial Intelligence is a tool, not a threat.” — Rodney Brooks
What is Artificial Intelligence?
To put it in simple words, the term AI is used to describe a machine’s ability to simulate human intelligence. Like learning, logic, reasoning, creativity, prediction etc.
The Past: Beginning of AI
The idea of making ‘machines to think’ was started back in the early 1960s, where few experts with curious minds invested in this to make it a reality.
Even though it was started in the 1960’s until 2011 not much development, but after 2011, the progress have been spectacular on this subject. One of the reasons is the availability of a huge amount of data and computation for analyzing that.
The final goal of AI is that a machine can have a type of general intelligence similar to a human’s.
All of AI’s research efforts have focused on constructing specialized artificial intelligence, and the results have been spectacular, especially over the last decade.
The Present: Evolution
In 2016, Google’s Deepmind has developed a computer program called ‘AlphaGo’ that defeated the professional human Go player.
Big companies like Google, IBM, Microsoft, Telsa, and a lot more are investing trillions of dollars to make the possibility from idea to reality. As we see in the beginning, we are in the world with AI technology (let’s say a small amount 😊).
AI using industries
Few industries are already using AI to make their life easier.
· Banking and Payments — Fraud detection, loan sanction
· Marketing — Recommendation system for customers or subscribers
· Agriculture — Predicting climate change, population growth
· Healthcare — diagnose and predict of diseases, eg. Stoke, heart attack..
· Fishing — detect and prevent illegal fishing in oceans (Microsoft Oceanmind)
The Future: AI World
Gartner predicts that by 2020 AI will produce more jobs than it displaces. Dennis Mortensen, CEO, and founder of x.ai, maker of AI-based virtual assistant Amy, agreed. “I look at our firm and two-thirds of the jobs here didn’t exist a few years ago,” said Mortensen.
Whatever we have developed so far are called ‘Weak AI’ (or Narrow AI) which are doing the specific tasks or routine works from the learnings that are thought by humans. Aim is to create a ‘Strong AI’ which is the initial idea to make the ‘machines to think’, some scientists believe it’s a couple of decades away; other talks about centuries.
In addition to creating new jobs, AI will also help people do their jobs better — a lot better. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Paul Daugherty, Accenture’s Chief Technology and Innovation Officer summed this idea up as, “Human plus machine equals superpowers.”
Final Thoughts
Among the myths about Artificial intelligence, the fact is AI technology is no threat to human beings. It’s going to hand to hand, with the use of AI we as humans are going to focus on the creative things to make mankind as superior rather than doing the monotonous things.
It is important to note that the scientists behind this technology are human and they are in control. At the moment, this technology can be used to help us succeed and progress in life.
Still, do you think AI will be threat for humans?
