Yes, biologically, scientifically, we ARE animals. There is nothing civilised or uncivilised about birth, or death for that matter. A good childbirth is one where everyone walks out alive. Pregnancy and labor are dangerous yet no one talks about it. Not really. They talk about the joy of childbirth. Other mums talk about it like you’re joining somw great club.

I had a c-section. Not by choice. My baby’s heart stopped. After they wheeled me to my room, I was in excrutiating pain. I saw my son the next day. We left the hospital after a week. I was in pain for 3 months.

Birth is not beautiful. The baby is, but birth is ugly. Much like death, it’s scary. Like death, it’s a reminder that we are all animals.
