So, your eyes are the ‘windows to your soul’ and your eyebrows frame your face and give it structure. So keeping them ‘on point’ should be a key part of a good beauty regime. Easier said than done though right?!

Every day women tell me that they are fed up of spending hours pencilling in their eyebrows only to get the shape wrong and uneven. And then there’s the time and effort it takes to apply their eyeliner and redo lipstick throughout the day. These are busy women with far more important and exciting things to be doing!

If ONLY there was a solution!

Well actually there is…

Thanks to the over-plucking plague of the noughties and due to the fabulous brows of the likes of Cara Delevingne, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner; we have seen a massive rise in the popularity of microblading and permanent makeup procedures; also known as micropigmentation, cosmetic tattoo or semi permanent makeup.

The technique of implanting pigment into fine incisions in the skin actually goes back thousands of years and was previously known as ‘eyebrow embroidery’. It is a form of shallow-depth tattooing that gives natural looking and long-lasting results that should be refreshed every 1–3 years depending on your skin type, age and lifestyle.

Hypo-allergenic pigments are delicately inserted into the upper layers of the skin; adding contrast, colour and definition to you eyebrows, eyes or lips. There are a range of pigment colours to choose from and it’s about creating the best shape for each face – a totally bespoke approach for each client.

This is an ideal solution for anyone who wants to simply ‘wake up with makeup’ and get on with their day.

Who benefits from Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup can benefit pretty much anyone; regardless of age, gender or personality type. It’s particularly effective for anyone who has; hair loss due to alopecia, chemotherapy or burns, anyone who. struggles to apply makeup due to visual impairment or conditions, such as arthritis, or those with allergies to traditional makeup or sensitive skin.

Here are some examples of clients that have recently visited the studio:

Client A – A sporty 20 year old woman, who over-plucked as a teenager and wanted her eyebrows back! She chose a bold powder brow effect, which complimented her facial features and natural bone structure. She loved that her eyebrows stayed put when she was working out in the gym or swimming!

Client B – A glamorous 80 year old lady, who’s brow hair had become sparse over the years and who had an eyesight impairment that made it difficult to pencil her brows and eyeliner on each day.

Client C – A 45 year old, busy stay at home mum of three. She wore very little day-to-day makeup but felt that a set of shapely, defined but very natural looking eyebrows would be a treat for herself, given that she always gave so much to everyone else.

Client D – A busy, 30 year old, working woman who suffered with Alopecia. She had no brow hair at all and opted for the ‘Combination’ or ‘Blade and Shade’ Brow treatment, where she had microbladed, soft fronts, but more defined powdered arches and tails.

How to find a Permanent Makeup Artist?

Permanent Makeup is becoming more and more popular, as more people have realised just how incredible the results can be. However, it is important to do your research and find an artist that, not only can give you the look you desire, but who has had high quality training and the range of experience needed to deliver safe, effective treatments and produce consistently excellent results.

There are many very talented artists across the UK. But with so many out there, how do you decide which one to go with?

  • Be sceptical of cheap deals! Ask yourself why an artist is charging so little; if an offer seems too good to be true, it. usually is! Make sure you have a look at some of their healed results and their clients’ reviews.
  • Ask about training and qualifications… Permanent Cosmetics is a complex and highly skilled area of the Beauty Industry. It is both a science and an art and takes a lot of training, skill, practice and experience to get consistently high-quality results. Your artist should have received extensive training in colour theory, dermatology, medical contra-indications, needle configurations, allergy testing, hygiene and sterilisation, and aftercare. They should be happy to tell you who they trained with and to show you their certificates and qualifications.
  • Are they fully insured and are they licensed with their Local Council?Anyone practising permanent makeup should have full public liability insurance cover. The artist and any premises they are using, should be inspected by the Local Authority and be fully licensed; primarily to ensure they are working from an appropriate, clean environment and using sterile needles, equipment, etc. For these reasons the artist should NOT be providing a mobile service.
  • Do you feel comfortable and fully informed? A quality permanent makeup artist should offer you a free Consultation, where your treatment is fully explained and any questions you may have are answered. They should also carry out a Patch Test to ensure you are not allergic to any of the products used. You should feel comfortable and confident with your Artist, and know that your wishes and feelings are paramount throughout the entire process. You should also like the look of their previous work and feel that their style represents the look you are wanting to achieve yourself.
