While I fully support the ongoing efforts to recruit more women faculty at universities, that should not be the focus of efforts to eliminate sexual harassment and sexual assault on campus because again, the culprit here is not gender but rather power. Recruiting more women onto campus does nothing to change the problematic structure of power relations that create an environment of academic impunity.
In the Hollywood case most of the victims never talked openly about because they were afraid of their position/interests. This is perpetrating the power structure. It’s unethical too, this. Every silence may save your carreer but at the cost of other people lives, and it’s not about being a saint or a hero. It’s about ethic. And it’s a society issue: we, as a society are so into ego/individual success or image of success; ethic? Just useless bullshit, until this stuff happens.
