Ceasefire might be shutting down
This is a difficult post to write, but we need to be transparent about Ceasefire’s looming demise if there’s any hope of preventing it.
Since our mobile app launch didn’t achieve the lift we’d hoped for (it was a struggle to get the word out beyond our pre-existing userbase), we face two harsh realities: our dwindling funds and the site’s low activity. These problems are not insurmountable individually, but in combination they are inevitably fatal.
What’s kept us going so far is a belief that Ceasefire has immense potential to do good in these times of division, reinforced by some great endorsements and, of course, the enthusiastic support of our regular users.
Despite this, in a few months time, a grant we received in 2019 will run out and we’ll be unable to cover our costs, forcing us to shut down.
Therefore, we’d be incredibly grateful if you’d vote for Ceasefire’s future via financial support, if you’re able to. We’ve set up a Patreon page where you can pledge any amount per month (minimum of $1), and those pledging $5/mo or more will get exclusive access to bonus posts from the Ceasefire team: https://www.patreon.com/ceasefire
Whether you’ve used and benefited from the site or just silently appreciate our endeavour, now’s the time to let us know we should keep going. If we receive a viable amount (ideally a few thousand dollars per month, but at least a couple thousand for basic operational costs), then — with our financial worries alleviated — we would have more time and a renewed drive to solve the problem of low activity as well.
We’d also love to read any advice or words of support you may wish to send to hello@ceasefire.net.
To end, we’ll leave you with a recent email from Stephen Fry:
