Subject: Bit Manipulation

Time committed: 3 hours

Problems tackled: Review: Single Number, Number of 1 Bits, Counting Bits, New: Sum of Two Integers, Majority Element

General comments:

  • I’m glad that I was able to focus for three hours straight today. Bit Manipulation is a hard topic for me. It was even tough reviewing the problems I had done prior. But it was a productive learning session. I feel like I am getting a better intuition of what can be done with bit operations. Of course, I need to accept that some solutions to some questions will be so difficult / require complex algorithms, that it’ll be hard to derive from scratch, but I think things are going well.
  • I spent some time today thinking about why I’m doing all of this preparation, and what my goals are, and it helped me get more motivated in tackling these problems. I have some big dreams, in terms of internships I want to land, and I believe that hard work and focus is the key. I think about last year’s shortcomings, where I came so far, and fell through in the technical interview stage. I’m determined not to let that happen this year. I’m going to make a change, in the way I think, in my expertise and knowledge of these materials.
  • I can do it. It’s within reach. With hard work and determination, anything can be accomplished. Another day down, many more to go. :-)
