Business Intelligence

When the raw data is converted into meaningful information by using tools and techniques or by performing analysis, cleansing, modeling, etc. is termed as BI.

Business Intelligence includes the following:

  • Data Cleansing — Data comes to any organization in a lot of formats. As per industry-wise, it is important to collect the data which is important and discard the unnecessary data. Sometimes a data may even contain some errors. So, the process of collecting the desired and error-free data is termed as Data Cleansing.
  • Data Modelling — All the data coming to the industry cannot be in a definite format or from a specifically defined single source. Thus, all these data are in need to be modelled in a single data warehouse. This process of data warehousing is known as data modeling.
  • Data Transformation — Data Transformation involves the extraction, transformation, and loading of data.
  • Data Representation — The process of analyzing the data and representing it in a visual form or by creating dashboards is known as Data Representation.
  • Data Analysis — The process of analyzing the data using analytical and statistical tools to come up with the strategic applicable answers for an organization.

Business Intelligence is a technology while, MSBI is a tool to implement it.

The three MSBI tools are;

  1. SSIS — SQL Server Integration Services
  2. SSAS — SQL Server Analytical Services
  3. SSRS — SQL Server Reporting Services

SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services)

As the name suggests this part is useful for integrating the data coming from different data sources in a data warehouse. SSIS performs the integration for data warehousing. The number of data sources together contribute to form data. To store all this data ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) process is to be performed on it. This Phase is responsible to process all the data from different locations and integrate it to store it in a data warehouse. The data warehouse is commonly used for storing data from different data sources. SSIS is generally responsible for bulk transactions.

SSAS (SQL Server Analytical Services)

This part, as the name suggests is responsible for performing the analysis on the data. SSAS ‘s main function is to develop Online Analytical Processing Solutions (OLAP). It helps to analyze a large volume of data. This tool up to some extent related to the administration of SQL Server. SSAS is responsible for analyzing the data before it is inserted in the database. It analyzes the SQL server in terms of good performance, load handling capacity, slice, dice, drill-down functionalities, security and many more.

SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services)

This part, as the name suggests, is responsible for preparing reports that contain visuals. As the name suggests SSRS is a reporting platform that presents the modern as well as traditional reports via suitable or custom applications. SSRS is platform-independent and very efficient. It can retrieve data from a lot of sources and can export the functionality in a lot of formats. It has access to web-based reports. It can display reports in forms such as gauge, tabular, chart and many more.

Benefits of MSBI?

The following are the few reasons to choose MSBI over other BI tools:

  • MSBI possess great ETL data gathering tools
  • MSBI has interactive dashboards and their scorecards help data access easy
  • Data analysis can be done in a secure environment without the need for specialist’s intervention
  • Al the users of MSBI can work on some version of data simultaneously
  • Accuracy is maintained by MSBI even through high data volumes
  • MSBI provides easy integration with other Microsoft products.

Thus, we have understood Business Intelligence and its functions. We also covered the central idea of Microsoft Business Intelligence, its three tools and its benefit over other Business Intelligence tools. MSBI solves the problem of the security of data. The data transfers within the overall MSBI workflow has maintained the security at a high priority. You can learn more through Msbi online training Hyderabad
