The UX Design of Miss Universe 2015 CardMiss Universe 2015 Mistake
Its been a few weeks since the announcement had been made and what a mess up it was. I don’t really keep track of this thing of but with it trending on Twitter I thought to have a look. The incident was that the Miss Colombia model was wrongly awarded Miss Universe instead it was suppose to be the women from the Philippines. Who after a few moments was given the crown and it was taken back from Miss Colombia while both still on stage…
The Miss Universe pageant was broadcasted to over 10-million viewers. The presented Steve Harvey was slated so much on Twitter from a mistake any of us would easily make. After looking at the score card I can see why he did call the wrong name.

Can you make out who the winner would have been off a quick glance? 9/10 of us wouldn’t.
The numbers as you can see show the pitfalls of the UX Design of the card.
1. Wrong choice of wording ‘ Elimination’. Having the winner on the same sheet and people who haven’t won would be hard to work out fast on live TV.
2. I just don’t get what on earth, ‘3–1’ could possibly mean, that needs removing.
3. One of the worst design aspects is the 2nd runner up and 1st runner up? That makes no sense, I have never heard of a first runner up. All it should be is 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Easy to read and no confusion.
4. This could be taken for the branding of the event rather than a signal for the winner.
5. The ‘Philippines’ why is the winners font in such a small size. Its almost unreadable and falling off the card itself. The winner needs to be big and clear.
I dont blame harvey for the mistake. The Designing of the card is awful, why change something that is already working. This can’t happen again its embarrassing, for such a huge event.
Goodbye, this the first of the mini posts I’m going to be doing from now on instead of the longer ones.
