The Not-to-Do List: 8 Habits to Stop Now

1. Don’t answer calls while you are working.

Never answer a call unless it’s a life-or-death situation while you are working. We often assume it might be urgent or important, but these things can wait.

Once you receive a call, it’s challenging to hang up. It distracts you from what you were doing and every time we fail to do something we promise ourselves, it might lead to negative self-talk.

2. Don’t stay outside after 9 PM.

We all want to develop a habit of waking up early, starting our day with less stress, and focusing on important things. Well, it all starts with sleeping early.

Staying home after 9 PM prioritizes your sleep, personal time, and family moments. You can reflect on your day or read something.

3. Don’t start a web series.

Starting a web series keeps your mind preoccupied with thoughts about the next episode, leading to distraction and low focus. Your mind tends to dwell on unfinished tasks.

Tip: Sometimes when I find myself in this loop, I go to YouTube and watch explanations of all the episodes. I know it wastes time, but it’s still better than watching entire hour-long episodes.

4. Don’t listen to music in the morning.

Music significantly affects your mood. If you listen to sad music, you keep thinking about negative experiences. Energetic music gives you a dopamine rush and makes it hard to focus on your work. Both can be detrimental.

If you want to listen to music, do it in the evening. Choose the kind that inspires you.

5. Don’t call any of your friends before writing your to-do list.

When you call someone in the morning without knowing your tasks for the day, it’s easier to say yes to going out for a movie or somewhere less important. Always write your to-do list after waking up.

Understand your important tasks for the day. It gives you more control over your day.

6. Don’t try to make a to-do list with more than 6 or 7 tasks.

You can’t accomplish everything in just one day. Prioritize your tasks. If you finish your tasks, don’t add more that are neither urgent nor important. When you have free time don’t try to fill it with work .

Spend time with your loved ones, bond with them, go for a walk with your partner, or do something that interests you.

7. Don’t read newspapers or consume any kind of media.

Consuming media can negatively affect you. It often emphasizes negativity and irrelevant content. Keep your focus on your goals/system.

8. Don’t waste your energy on arguments.

The time you realise that you are in an argument, try to avoid it at any condition. You can never win an argument. Say “Sorry, you were right” and end the argument. Try to save your energy and time, they are more important than money.

That’s all for today. I hope you find it useful

Let me know which bad habit you want to avoid next year.
