In this post, i want to tell you about the differences of internship and apprenticeship it self, and maybe the different things about two kind of this process. In Bahasa we know that this things mean the same word, Magang. But it’s different meaning in other language, like german. Internship mean pratical training, and apprenticeship word focus on training, or a learning purpose.

What is Internship? Internship is a process of getting experience and implement our knowledge in real life condition, like we are included in the team of a company that making a program, maybe we have very little contribution to it, but we have the contribution rather than not. We start it little.
What is Apprenticeship? Apprenticeship is a process of learning and implement our knowledge in real life condition, just like Internship, but more focus on Learning and Training skill.

“No such thing as a stupid Question” The Old Saying

In our real life, we maybe know about Internship, like in college, we have to do this, and have some experiences from a company, in college, it’s depends on what you are trying to achieve, the grade, or the knowledge, if you are trying to get a good grade, do the best, but you will not asking another things that you are not included in if you focus on doing a thing, but if you want to get experience and knowledge, you have to ask much things to the company you are in. Like why they make this project? what happen if they don’t make it? what will happen if they make it? just a simple question, right? but it will lead you to know the real situation, ask the other technical basic too, why they make this design pattern? what things that you have to improve in your skill? which language that they used? why they used it? very simple question, no question is a dumb question, you have to ask it, it will be your foundation to learn a lot things after that.

Then, we know apprenticeship, what we do there? we learn together as a team, we learn much basic things, and ask much basic stuff, like we should do in Internship, but because this apprenticeship program is focused on learning and training, we can ask more than what the employer give, like about how they manage their time to learn? what is the first things that they manage to learn? this questions are simple enough for you to be asked, yeah? and when we stuck on a problem for too long, and our team cannot answer the question, we can ask to our tech lead, tech lead play a role as a teacher, we as a student must thirst for knowledge and learn things, but if you stuck and you are not doing apprenticeship you can ask anyone you might know have much experience than you, how they can manage that situation (Ask a Guru).

Too Long;Didn’t Read

There are some purpose differences between internship and apprenticeship, and different things in it implementation, we have to know it, and we have to asked everything even we are not doing this internship and apprenticeship, because there is no stupid question.

What Next’s ?

You know the difference between Internship and Apprenticeship, so which one do you prefer to do? if you are thinking about doing internship to get a grade from college and not getting any experiences, so I might say that you have a wrong perspective of learning, what you need knowledge, and experience, not the grade (maybe you need the grade for passing the college, but more effective if you get the experience and get great grade).
