School’s In Session — Drive Safely!
Our first week of school is nearly done and we are off to an amazing start. In an effort to make sure that the year continues as such, we would like to take a moment to remind our parents and community members of several important safety rules when driving.
~ Pay attention on the roads. It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus. If you are driving behind a bus, allow extra following distance, stop if lights are flashing, and be alert!
~ State law requires that drivers yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and intersections.
~ State law prohibits cell phone usage in school zones AND prohibits the use of a cell phone, PDA, or portable computer to compose, send or read messages or access the Internet while driving.
~ Share the road with bicyclists. Many children ride bicycles to and from school. Be extra cautious in subdivisions where children may be on the road/sidewalk, especially when pulling in or out of a driveway.
Please, help us keep our students safe when you are on the road. Do not drive while distracted or overly tired.
