My Last Words

I speak for the last time,
I speak no more but once,
Let this be on my epitaph,
Let this be what I be remembered for.

I leave no jewels behind,
Nor do I leave any blood.
I leave no memories behind,
As they will fade away before the dusk.

I leave no void to fill,
No scar in anyone’s heart.
I leave my flesh alone,
Which will be burnt in an hour.

I made no dent in the universe,
No change to herald.
I now leave this world to you,
One day you’ll leave it too.

What do I leave behind then,
If not jewels and memories?
It is my knowledge I leave,
I leave them for you.

Nothing else but knowledge thrives,
Because it is free from any bounds.
Nothing else but understanding counts,
Because it knows how to live on.

Knowledge is a fire within,
A flame that lives on.
I leave behind my understanding,
Do pass it on.

Attach no name with these words of wisdom,
Glue no credit to them.
For the words are not mine alone,
I inherited them from the dead.
