Extinction is a common fear when it comes to the animals in the world, and of them all, the endangered ones are given special treatments.
Like most countries that have a rich wildlife, Sri Lanka has its own list of endangered mammals too. These animals are given special care and are kept in protected reserves and national parks and having a look at them is also possible during a safari in Sri Lanka, if you visit the places or stay inside the park with the help of camps like the Mahoora Tented Safari Camps.
Almost 30 types of endangered mammals can be found in Sri Lanka, and of them, the most prominent are the
Asian Elephant
Black Finless Porpoise
The Ceylon Jungle Shrew
The Ceylon Pygmy Shrew
The Golden Palm Civet
Gray Langur
Indian Brown Mongoose
Panthera Pardus Leopard.
Most of these mammals can be found in the famous reserves on the island, like the Yala National Park, Horton Plains National Park, and the Wilpattu National Park.
Some of the mammals aren’t sighted as often as the others, but avid campers with a lot of patience have had the luck of seeing these endangered mammals.
