Google has announced its latest AI service, “Bard,” which is aimed at taking on Microsoft’s popular Chat GPT tool. This new conversational AI service is designed to counter the rising popularity of ChatGPT and take a share of the market. In a recent blog post, Google CEO Sundar Pichai explained that Bard will initially be available exclusively to a group of trusted testers before being widely released later in the year.

Bard’s main selling point is its ability to explain complex subjects in simple terms that can be understood by a child. This new AI service also promises to perform other tasks such as providing tips for planning a party, or suggesting lunch ideas based on food in the refrigerator. However, Pichai did not mention in his post if Bard will be able to write prose in the style of William Shakespeare, the playwright who inspired the service’s name.

Pichai stated that Bard can function as a creative outlet and ignite a desire for knowledge.

This announcement from Google comes less than two weeks after Microsoft revealed its plan to pour billions of dollars into OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT and other AI tools. This move has intensified the pressure on Google to keep pace in the field of AI, which many believe will be as transformative as personal computers, the internet, and smartphones.

A recent report from CNBC stated that a team of Google engineers working on AI technology has been asked to prioritize working on a response to ChatGPT. Bard was originally developed under the “Atlas” project, which is part of Google’s “code red” effort to counter the success of ChatGPT.

Pichai has been emphasizing the importance of AI for the past six years and has made it a priority for Google. One of the most visible byproducts of this is the “Language Model for Dialogue Applications” (LaMDA), which will be used to power Bard. Google also plans to begin incorporating LaMDA and other AI advancements into its search engine to provide more helpful answers to the increasingly complex questions being posed by its users.

In another sign of Google’s commitment to AI, the company recently announced its investment in and partnership with Anthropic, an AI startup led by former leaders at OpenAI. Anthropic has built its own AI chatbot named Claude and has a mission centered on AI safety.

In conclusion, Google is taking the AI world by storm with its latest AI service, Bard. With its ability to explain complex subjects in simple terms and perform tasks such as party planning, Bard is set to take on Microsoft’s ChatGPT tool and capture a share of the market. With Google’s investment in AI safety startup Anthropic and plans to integrate AI advancements into its search engine, it’s clear that the company is committed to advancing the field of AI.
