Seriously, understand that there’s no grand conspiracy. We’re not all assholes out to get you (or are you implying all white males are?). Those who apply and do well in the interview will get hired. If non-white non-males don’t apply and/or don’t do well, no one’s going to create them out of thin air just to satisfy some bullshit statistics. I did at least 50 interviews for a tech company this year alone and most skilled applicants were white males. Was I supposed to reject them based on race and having a penis? Would that be what you’re after? Was I supposed to go and force more women of color to study computer science? Or maybe hire unskilled people and damage my company?
I am asking you. Tell me. What was I supposed to do?
If you tell me the problem is with unequal access to education, I’ll agree. But than lead your crusade in that direction instead of hating on companies doing their job. We simply hire for talent, and do not care for your color or gender, and that’s how it’s going to stay. If white males are what market offers (and right now it is), so be it.
Why does a company in 2016 need to gather as many different species as possible for their display as if it were a zoo and not a company?
Sure, Snapchat was probably wrong (haven’t seen the filter myself), but you’re not mad at them for making a bad filter, you’re mad at them for being white males. You’re mad at an entire industry for being affected by the market, by the society, by culture, by biology. That is not just unhealthy. That is downright pathological.
Fight for better education. Fight for equal opportunity. I’ll fully support you then. As it is, you’re not doing anyone a favor.
