At first glance, ten dollars seems negligible. But there is a lot you can do with it. After all, in a lot of places you can’t even get a decent lunch for ten dollars. But ten dollars can give you a lot of fun or have a big impact if it is spent right. Here are ten things you can do to make the most out of ten dollars.

1 ) Invest it.

Using an app like Acorns, you are able to invest small amounts of money into highly diversified portfolios put together by investing professionals. They will even recommend which risk level is best for you. It only takes five dollars to start earning dividends, so investing ten dollars can get you started on saving for your dream home or retirement.

2 ) Donate 100 trees

You can fight poverty and global warming with a single donation if you donate to Trees for the Future, a nonprofit company that helps revitalize soil by supplying impoverished farmers with tools and training to grow sustainable forest gardens. One tree only costs ten cents, so ten dollars will donate 100 trees to help save the planet and fight poverty.

3 ) Try a fancy latte

Have you ever looked at expensive coffee drinks and wondered what they taste like while marveling at the price? Well, ten dollars can give you a taste of the luxurious and the exotic. You can try a fancy latte with a pretty tree pattern in the foam and is served on a silver platter with a ball of chocolate covered licorice on the side.

4 ) Buy 10 books

Whether you browse the 99-cent deals from Bookbub or go on Smashwords or Kobo, you can find plenty of quality full-length books for 99 cents and you will support authors in the process.

5 ) Go on an Earth-friendly shopping spree

The beauty about thrift stores and yard sales is you get to experience the thrill of a hunt for good deals. Buying used items also keeps them out of landfills. With the United States being the most wasteful country in the world, we could all do with a few more Earth-friendly shopping sprees. Buying used also means your dollar stretches farther. By hitting the right sales in the right locations, you can buy a whole new outfit for only ten dollars.

6 ) Buy 2 boxes of fair trade tea

Global Citizen labeled tea as one of the worst foods for humanity because of the horrible conditions tea farmers are forced to face, which includes poor sanitation and forced labor.

However, there is an alternative with Equal Exchange, a coop that is working to change the food and beverage industry by working small farms with sustainable practices and humane working conditions for the workers. With their high quality organic tea priced at $4.50 a box, you can get two boxes of deliciously soothing tea and be part of a movement that is changing the world for the better.

7 ) Pay for one month of Netflix

Who doesn’t like binge-watching their favorite shows now and then? One month of Netflix streaming costs as little as $7.99, which gives you access to Stranger Things, Daredevil, Gilmore Girls and dozens of other shows perfect for binge-watching. You also will have a couple bucks left over to buy two 99-cent books or a semi-fancy latte.

8 ) Buy a Humble Bundle

You can get great deals through Humble Bundle. These deals are often ten high-quality books or videos games that you can get for less than ten dollars. All the proceeds go to charity.

9 ) Get one or two trial kits from Dollar Shave Club

Maybe you are thinking of joining the Dollar Shave Club or you have been a member for awhile but have not tried out their products. You can sample their products to see which ones you like best with their trial packages. You can get two of their cheaper packages for $5 a piece or one of their larger packages for $7, including the Members Favorites trial package, which includes the Dollar Shave Club’s most popular products.

10 ) Get the Lover’s Quarrel Silver Package

If you are an author looking to promote your book, or a book blogger needing more exposure, you could consider buying the Lover’s Quarrel Silver Package, which is promotion in exchange for a ten dollar donation to the Borgen Project, a nonprofit fighting extreme global poverty. Ten dollars gets you links to your website or book on Lover’s Quarrel, mentions on social media, and a book or blog spotlight.

What would you do with ten dollars? Let me know in the comments.
