An example of a font on Silhouette Studio.

Step 1: Download A Font

There are a wide variety of font repositories to choose from, but my site of choice is DaFont. The reason I like DaFont is its utter simplicity, ability to preview fonts, and huge selection.

Once you have found the right font, click the download button to save the ZIP file to your computer. Extract the ZIP file to gain access to the font file, then open the file. Once opened you will see a larger preview of the font and a button to install the font onto your computer.

Step 2: Install The Font

Installing the font will add it to your computer’s collection so that you may use it wherever you would like, to include Silhouette Studio.

To confirm the font was properly downloaded, open the computer’s settings application. Use the search or help bar to find font settings. After navigating to font settings you may search for the name of your font by scrolling or using the search bar if one is available.

Step 3: Add Text To Silhouette Studio

Open the Silhouette Studio application. On the left-sidebar there should be an “Add text” icon in the shape of an “A” underneath the shape and marker icons. Click on the “A” and then click onto the whiteboard to begin typing out your text.

Step 4: Edit The Text

Highlight the word you typed out and find the icon of an “A|” on the right sidebar, which should pull up the text style. To find your font, type the name of the font into the text style search bar and it should appear.

Pro-Tip:

If you want to cut this word out, double check to make sure the letters are not overlapping with one another. I’ve noticed that this is a problem that most commonly occurs with cursive fonts. If you experience this issue, highlight the word and right click to pull up menu options. Look for the word “weld” and click on it to combine all of your letters together instead of having them overlap.
