So Long, Butterfly
Day 53 of the 100 Day Project
“Don’t catch another butterfly until Spots comes home.” This was handwritten by Kelsey on a small piece of paper taped to her bedroom ceiling above her bed. It’s a bit of mystery how a tiny girl like Kelsey was able to reach the ceiling in the first place, but that is a prime example of her independence and tenacious spirit.
On the day of Kelsey’s burial, her older sister opened a white box of butterflies. As Spot’s family danced and fluttered into the air, they landed on roses held by those who loved Kelsey most.
This was day 53 and within the emotional impact of this past week, I have thought a great deal about grief and the human condition. I’d like to talk to some people about where they find comfort and hope. Let me know if you’re up for it.
