“There is not one rule which says this is art or this in not art. I think everyone has to define it by himself. I think art is something very important because it gives us the possibility to create a new reality or a parallel reality.” (Erwin Wurm, 2009)
‘Instructions on how to be politically incorrect’ from Erwin Wurm is a series of work that take a pretty broad definition of “politically incorrect,” preferring to use the term to showcase things that just should never happen, ever, spitting in your fellow diner’s soup, a man sticking his head down a woman’s shirt etc.
Erwin Wurm is a Conceptual artist. His works covered physical, mental, psychological and political dimensions. The core of his work is do not see it serious but his absurd scenarios make people think twice; he delivers the story in a diametrically opposite manner. Through his work he shows sense of humour in an easy way to let audience to understand the meaning behind.
I really like he presents his ideas in an ironic way. Even though he shows things that are politically incorrect and those are supposed to be serious ethics problems, he doesn’t present and expresses the stories in a heavy way. Therefore, he allows the audience to understand the meaning in a different way, try to use positive way to look at the problems in order to lead the audience to get rid of the traditional pattern of thinking.
In my video, I hope the message behind could deliver to the audience in a similar way. Through a documentary to present an easy way, an interview with Mrs. Puddephatt, through her expressions, her thought, and her life experience to deliver the message that people should face loneliness serious. Loneliness is a serious problem that might affect everyone and it is already around us and we might not notice.
