Just like a grade school bully

The tough guy in the school yard

I didn’t reactivate my biometrics so I cannot vote this coming elections. I regret it especially now that it’s only 11 days before the National Elections and it seems like Rodrigo Duterte is leading in the polls. So let me just throw this in the air because I am really worried about our country’s future.

I used to admire Duterte’s gung ho ways because of the apparent fix he did to Davao City. I’ve been there a couple of times and it is indeed clean, the Davaoenos are happy and seemingly safe and disciplined, their public transport system is efficient, and I felt safe when I was there.

My admiration turned to disbelief when I read a news site’s interview with him when he was just contemplating on running for the presidency. I realized he has (and still doesn’t) have a concrete plan on how he will run the country if he gets elected. That was forgivable then, but not now when election is almost a week away.

In Presidential Debates, he proudly boasted that he will just copy the other Presidentiables’ plans. Just like a grade school bully too lazy to study and instead copies from his classmates by coercion. He boasted and continues to boast that he will kill hundreds of criminals without due process. Just like a grade school bully threatening to beat up those who are weaker than him. He tried to pick a fight with Australia and US. Just like a grade school bully who tries to act tough when threatened and scared. These are just some of the latest antics and just like a grade school bully, he owns the yard.

I am alarmed and you should be too. Philippines is not his playground. He cannot just do whatever he wants with it. There will be dire consequences with human rights, international diplomacy, and mostly our democracy if he wins. How I wish I could vote on Election Day. The other candidates are less than desirable to me but I think they’re much better than Du30.
