Excellent article, and I quite agree with your thesis. The decline of audience in broadly-based blogs seems to be very clearly attached to both the rise of social media and the prominence of streaming, to the detriment of more engaged and thoughtful discourse.
I can vividly remember being 17 and reflecting how much smarter I had been at 13, with seemingly intuitive perceptions in (age-appropriate) math. (Who needed to memorize derived geometric proofs when you could just reinvent them on the spot at need?)
Excellent article. I’m somewhere on your own experience level — it used to grossly amuse me when I heard some female-dismissal at 3rd hand, usually after success had been achieved. I have zero sympathy for the SJW whine, especially in a reality-based field such as IT: if you want to be treated as competent, go and be competent. If you encounter jerks, laugh at them and move on.
