You are entitled to your own emotions but not your own facts. There is actually a comfort in the idea that a large segment of society is out to “get us.” People that feel that way find solace in the cocoon of each other’s company. Learned helplessness and hopelessness convince us that we never “failed,” or that we succeeded in spite of the hate. Results of our endeavors only confirm our own biases and get passed down and even exacerbated for the next generation. Unfortunately, this is a sentiment that drives fringe groups of every shade, color and creed.
