All For Serving You

Today, I appeared before the University of Nevada-Las Vegas CSUN Senate to address them on why I’m all in for an internship with their senators.

The following is an official transcript of Karl Catarata’s remarks to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas CSUN Senate for appointment as a legislative intern on Monday, August 15, 2016.

Members of the senate, members of the public — my fellow UNLV Rebels.

Firstly, let me be succinct: I am honored, and blessed to appear before you here today.

My name is Karl Catarata, and I am an incoming UNLV Freshman, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Leadership and Civic Engagement, and candidate for internship for the College of Liberal Arts Senators here in your assembling body.

I’m a published author, former International Baccalaureate President, UNLV Rebel Recruiter, past 2016 Bank of America Student Leader Intern at the John D. “Jackie” Gaughan Boys and Girls Club right here on the UNLV campus, and tutor with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada.

My academic, educational, and business resume mirrors something very important in my interest in this internship, as noted by President John F. Kennedy — that:

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”

My objectives are very clear: to serve my constituents, to help senators pass comprehensive resolutions, comprehensive bills, to serve our neighbors in the communities that we live in, and to serve other college/university students across Nevada — that are on the same journey that we are all on.

The State of Nevada’s motto, also this university’s motto, in Latin, is:

“Omnia Pro Patria”.

Translated in English, this means: All for Our Country.

Just like our university's motto, I’m all for serving you — the senate.

I’m all for serving us — the students of UNLV.

I’m all for serving: our Clark County residents, Nevadans, guests, our country, and the constituents that we serve.

So let’s go, fight, and win with our fellow Rebels, and let’s go, fight, and win at every challenge we face together, as one student body.

Thank you! Have a wonderful afternoon, and I look forward to answering any questions you all have for me.
