Remarks to Clark County School District Board of Trustees on Receiving A 2016 Bill Endow Scholarship

Today, I gave my official remarks before the CCSD Board of Trustees at the April 28th CCSD Board of Trustees Public Meeting.

Good afternoon President Dr. Linda E. Young, Vice President Garvey, Clerk Tew, Trustee Child, Trustee Cranor, Trustee Edwards, Trustee Wright, Superintendent Skorkowsky, Members of CCSD, my fellow students:

My name is Karl Catarata, I attend Valley High School as an International Baccalaureate senior, and I have the greatest honor of accepting a 2016 Bill Endow Scholarship from the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce.

The Bill Endow Scholarship, a scholarship provided to Asian-Americans in the valley, has been a prominent scholarship in memorial of William “Bill” Endow, an exemplary Asian-American citizen who truly believed in giving back to his Las Vegas community.

With this amazing scholarship, I will be attending the University of Nevada Las Vegas, to receive my bachelor’s degree in political science, and to continue my work in the Las Vegas community for years to come. I aspire to better serve the community we share by going to law school, studying in a concentration of constitutional law.

Today, I brought three important figures in my life. First, my mother, Norleen Catarata. Second, my brother (also, current President of Valley High School Key Club). Third, my counselor at Valley, Mrs. Amy Addante.

However, most importantly, I’d like to thank Las Vegas Asian Chamber Chamber of Commerce, my community, my fellow Vikings (Principal Esparza, Dr. Benjamin Feinstein, Ms. Jebette Caterina), my family, and my colleagues for their support.

Thank you.
