Whether you’re from Toronto or even Sault Ste. Marie, I’m sure you’ve heard of the 6 God, also known as Drake. Drake is the stage name of the Canadian actor and recording artist Aubrey Drake Graham. Due to his high popularity, the Internet has gone crazy over him and has also created various memes of anything from music videos, tweets and photos. In this post, we will go over some of the most popular Drake memes.

1. Drake Wearing Dada

This photoshop meme is based on a photo of Drake taken during the shoot of his music video “No New Friends” in May 2013. It quickly became popular from his fans, mainly for his wardrobe choice of Damani Dada which is an athletic apparel and shoe company that was very popular among hip hop musicians in the 1990s (KnowYourMeme). Personally, I don’t think this meme was that big of a deal, but completely understand why the hip hop culture would really like this.

2. If You’re Reading This Cover Parodies

This meme is a parody of the cover of Drake’s 2015 album, “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late”. The images consist of a special font in block handwriting which was nicknamed “Drakefont”. This meme was a huge hit with teenagers mainly because of the play on words one can create with it.

3. Drakeposting

This refers to the popular posting of reaction images and other still shots from Drake’s 2016 hit single music video “Hotline Bling”. Personally, I think this was the biggest Drake meme of all time thanks to his facial expressions and hand gestures which became a huge hit with teenagers on social media.

4. Views from the 6 Cover

Again, another meme that used an album cover of Drake. Many images were photoshopped to add an image of Drake sitting on a ledge, which was originally featured him sitting on the CN Tower.

While Drake seems to always be a trending topic, his memes appear to be most popular during times when his videos or new music are being released. This is confirmed by the data in the graph below which illustrates that Drakeposting reaches its highest peaks during release times and then drops immediately afterwards.
