Lisa Wilkinson Says Goodbye To The Today Show
Fans and friends have taken to Twitter to commend Lisa Wilkinson’s decision to part from the Nine Network’s The Today Show due to pay controversy. She believes that networks need to value female staff.
The Nine Network has failed to make a contract agreement with Wilkinson. After 10 years of Co Hosting, Wilkinson was making a significant amount less then her former male Co-star Karl Stefanovic. Social Media has been raving with support for her decision and criticized Nine for refusing to match the three-year contract reported amount Stefanovic signed in 2016.
Women in Media advocate Tracey Spicer, thanked her for taking a stand on behalf of others in Australia where the national gender pay gap is still 15 per cent. Along with Juliette Saly, who stated that her decision was clearly not about pay, but principle.
Nine has been reported to have been “disappointed” not to reach a deal with Wilkinson but was “unable to meet the expectations” of the morning television host and her manager. Peter Ford, Stefanovic’s brother also took to twitter to express that The Network has now created a PR dilemma for themselves.
Despite her absence from Nine, fans have applauded her for taking a stand after being with the Network for a decade. Wilkinson later tweeted she was “absolutely thrilled” to join Ten’s The Project in a senior hosting and editorial role from January 2018. She gave thanks to the Today Show audience who have been supportive and loyal over the years. She is one of the most respected journalists and television presenters in Australia and has fans on her side with her decision.
