Well, here in the UK we are still dealing with the skeleton of an entrenched class system. It’s weird in that the context and the people involved alters which group is seen as more virtuous. For example, a middle class white father might admire the work ethic of the working class white class kid doing a paper round and admonish his own son for not being as enterprising. But he would also be wary of letting his daughter fraternize with the working class kid. It’s a mess.
The other weird thing I have noticed is that much of our middle class tend to favour status over substance. The fact that their son or daughter is a lawyer or a doctor is nothing more than a social status badge for them. They might feel genuine pride for their offsprings accomplishments in obtaining the necessary degrees required to work their job. But there is very little talk of healing the sick or the fair and balanced administration of justice.
