Less than three days left.

I’m excited. Costa Rica. Travelling alone. About the unknown. Challenges awaiting. Nervous about meeting my first host family, but mostly good nervous. Excited about learning the Spanish language with tico/a accent. I don’t think I have realized yet what I’m about to do.

The last five years I have studied away from home, in Trondheim. This means I’ve been away from home, family, and friends before. So it doesn’t feel that different when thinking about this stay now. But who knows, I will probably feel a bit different about it later on. Anyway, I’m probably going to miss my family including our dog, my home, my friends, the Norwegian air, the Norwegian language and maybe a whole lot of small strange things.

On the other side, this will be my longest period away from Norway. And the previous time was only for two weeks, on an excursion together with my former classmates at NTNU to Singapore, Malaysia, and travelling with my good friend to Thailand. That means, this cannot compare to this.

I’m staying in Costa Rica for about four months. Three weeks Spanish course, then 12 weeks of volunteer work at different kinds of projects. Social and conservation. The last weeks of my trip will be in USA on my way home, visiting an awesome friend in Texas, and a lovely friend, or “complicated” family relative, in New York, if you want. There are so many experiences ahead! Experiences of a lifetime.

I’m starting to feel restless. At this moment, I’ve almost finished packing my big and smaller backpack. It’s less than three days until I leave.

¡Costa Rica, here I come!
