The Good, the Bad and Ugly of Cognitive Biases

The invisible yet powerful role that cognitive biases play in life

Cognitive bias is a systematic error that affects the decisions and judgments that other people make. The use of the word “other” is deliberate on my part to emphasise how we (our brains) really think of cognitive biases, that is, as something that only affects others. The above definition, while appealing and satisfying, is untrue. Cognitive biases equally impair everyone’s ability to engage in rational decision making.
