Ever wondered how a dog whistle works?
A dog whistle works by producing a high-frequency sound that dogs can hear, but humans cannot.
The sound is produced by a small, narrow opening called a “pea” that vibrates when air is blown into the whistle.
When a person blows the whistle, the pea vibrates and produces a high-frequency sound. Dogs are able to hear sounds in the range of 40,000 to 60,000 Hz, while the upper limit of human hearing is generally around 20,000 Hz, so they are able to hear the sound produced by a dog whistle.
These dog whistles are manufactured by chipping the wood to form the pea and when air passes through the pea it reverberates in a frequency range that only dogs can hear.
Dog whistle politics is a term used in politics which means the use of coded or suggestive language in political messaging to garner support from a particular group without provoking opposition.
