10 Steps to Survive Week 1 of UX Academy

(A 40 hour, 3 month / 20 hour, 6 month online UX program by Designlab)

1. Empty your mind and your calendar.

40 hours at a job and 40 hours to study? — That’s… not going to work.
(EDIT: It HAS been done! Impressive!)

and be water, my friend.

2. Keep your bookmarks organized.

You’re going to keep receiving them.

YOU GET A BOOKMARK! AND YOU GET A BOOKMARK! EVERYONE GETS A BOOKMARK!

3. Wrestle with your files in Ai/PSD/Sketch.

Make that software work for you! Keep wrestling as hard as you can.

No actual goats were harmed in the making of this GIF.

4. That “optional” reading? Mandatory.

You need reading for the REAL WORLD… and assignments due on Sunday.

I feel sorry for those starting their work on the weekends… just don’t do it.

5. Cuddle with Pomodoro,

or Trello, or Habitica, or any other productivity hack to avoid distractions.

“I have to finish this. I have to finish this. Oh sh — t.”

6. Yet still… stay on top of Slack for bonus gems.

Local hangouts with your peers, free design magazines, and helpful videos!

MEETING MY PEERS IN PERSON?!? YEAHHHHHHHHHH!

7. Take lots of notes and draw.

You will be able to use some of it later for your projects.

8. Get out in the world!

Find real world examples for your projects. Or, switch up where you work!

Re-think your work space and research space too.

9. You will sweat through your first mentorship call.

If you didn’t, then you’re not working hard enough.

I can do this.

10. Congrats, you did it!!!

Now do it all again next week, but times 100!

Sell your soul to UX research and design. It hurts so good.
