Wow! Advice from a Christmas tree

The conversation my Christmas tree had with me
It’s New Year’s Eve. Tomorrow is my birthday, January first. I’m looking at the twinkling of my Christmas tree. It’s a beautiful full tree with color-changing lights. It changes seventeen different times, but we don’t have the remote right now so it’s just stuck between two different changes that I had it on before I went into the hospital. Before my remote possibly went into storage.
One minute it’s white, then it looks like Spring colors. The ornaments are mostly off. I put away the cartoon characters that covered the tree, the side table, and the floor.
The tree is artificial but it looks bigger now than it did two years ago. The stand is just plain, with no movement but will hold up the tree on four legs. The stick is thicker in the middle.
“Aurora, shut down the tree” I call into space. The tree goes brighter. “Off, Aurora. Off with the tree.”
It’s still on. My nerves are a bit frazzled right now. I’m not doing anything for tonight. I’m just spending it with my dog. Daisymarie has been my New Year’s Eve date and I love spending it with her. She looks up at the tree and then lies back down to go to sleep. I must have disturbed her. “Disturbia,” I begin…
