I’m sorry for getting back to you so late! Another reader pointed out my mistake and I have since corrected it in the post. I accidentally used a full pound of butter (4 sticks = 2 cups = 1 pound), and I think you are absolutely right- it made the cake much better! I apologize for the original mistake.
A funny note- when I first started baking I did the same thing with a batch of scones and they were by far the best “scones” I’ve ever had.
I’m so glad you are passing on classic dessert recipes to your kids! That’s exactly what I want my blog to do! The old favorites like Icebox Cookies, or Oatmeal Pie, or Golden Bars (so forgotten I had no idea what they were until I made them) are often the best.
