Did you cover Northern Ireland and the Good Friday Agreement being wrapped up in the EU?

David Allen Green has suggested that GFA is the major hurdle to Art 50, Mike Butcher. I do think it’s where we need to look.

I have a draft MP letter that I will post in some form in the coming week that focuses squarely on Northern Ireland & the peace settlement. Freedom of Movement is one important aspect, as Tony says. I don’t think it’s the whole story by any means.

Northern Ireland was one of the topics in my Open Letter (Jul 3), in the tweenage rendition, and (briefly) in the Dozen Points of Democracy. It’s also one that #NoDust the event will raise.

GFA was such an achievement in its day. Hard to stomach how it’s been jeopardised and in nearly every conversation I have here in England where I raise it, I’m shocked by the manner in which it is dismissed.

There’s something about the reactions that really drive home to me the limitations of a society without a written constitution. I’m not a fan of constitutional fundamentalism because of the way in which the USA 2nd Amendment has been (to my mind) abused. But I’m not liking the absence of a written constitution either. People seem to think that because Britain’s constitution is unwritten, international treaties like GFA can be re-written and over-written. It’s an assumption that to my mind does not serve peace, shakes stability and in today’s world makes us all less secure.

Just tonight, I realised I know too little about Neville Chamberlain. 12 months ago, I can’t imagine the thought crossing my mind.
