Starting your first affiliate marketing business as a beginner is an exciting time, but it can also be wrought with uncertainty, overwhelm, confusion and doubts. There are many lessons to learn along the way and while there may be times you want to throw in the towel, I’m here to tell you DON’T!!

We are bombarded every day by experts and gurus standing in front of Ferraris, telling us how we can make a fortune in a few months. While I’m sure a few do get lucky and make the big bucks fast, most don’t and just use underhand tactics trying to sell you the dream of fast cash.

Starting an affiliate marketing business from scratch takes time, focus and determination. One of the first things you need to decide on is; a profitable affiliate product to promote. While it may be tempting to just choose any product you hear about that offers big commissions, it’s advised that you only promote products you’ve used yourself, that you know are good and that will give your customers a great experience.

Choose a Product That is Proven

It is possible to make money from product launches and many affiliate marketers make money from promoting new products on their YouTube channel or other social media accounts. The trouble with this is that the product may not be proven and if you promote it and consequently get sales — what if it turns out the product doesn’t work and you get people asking for refunds?

This can seriously hurt your reputation and won’t make you look great to your following or other affiliate marketing programmes that you might want to work with.

Choose a product to promote in your affiliate marketing business that you’ve used yourself and you know others have made money promoting. This way you’ll know there’s a market for it and that it actually helps to improve people’s lives.

Will it Solve Pain Points?

We all have our pain points and if we can’t solve them ourselves, we are willing to pay someone to help us with them. Ask yourself — will the product help your customers, does it fit in with your niche and will it help someone get from the painful point A to the happy point B?

If you are in the losing weight for women affiliate niche, will your product help them lose the extra 20 pounds like it says it will. Use it yourself and document your progress, so when you promote it you can share your results and show that it actually, honestly works. Help someone solve their pain point and they will be happy to give their cash to you!

Does the Product Have a Mix of Low/High Ticket Offers and Sticky Cookies?

Building up loyal customers that like and trust you can take time. A good idea is to choose a product/programme that has a mix of low and high ticket offers plus sticky cookies.

‘Sticky cookies’ means; if you get someone to buy a low ticket offer through your affiliate link, they are sticky cookied to you and any other products they buy within that programme, even the high ticket ones — you will get the commission!

This could mean, you may get someone into a programme by buying a free plus shipping book for example. But as they research the other offers, they may end up buying a course for thousands of pounds and you will get 40–70% commission from that!

This is a great way to get re-occurring income in the future as some affiliate programmes like Clickfunnels for example, have offers that are so high-converting, once you get someone to buy even a low ticket item, they will be taken through high-converting funnels and offered to buy other high ticket products.

You don’t have to do any more selling to that person if someone is sticky cookied to you.

The expert marketers in Clickfunnels, will do all the selling for you and you can enjoy high affiliate commissions sometimes months and years down the line.

So do your homework. Find products that are proven to work, solves pain points and has a mix of low/high ticket offers plus sticky cookies. Do this and you’ll be able to build yourself a thriving affiliate marketing business as time goes on.
