In my experience, guys don’t tend to notice what women (or men) wear. Not unless they are either extremely visual, or gay. So I agree that guys will pretty much ignore your clothes, and they will always see that “Oh, a girl! Wow. Pretty.” That’s a generalized reaction which I have redacted from numerous conversations with my husband and male friends. Women in the work place, OTOH, tend to notice the exterior a lot more. Women also enforce the pecking order, or try to get ahead, or manipulate a situation, by throwing out “helpful suggestions” and getting a guy chime in. I think it’s an evolutionary mechanism, by which they undermine competitiors. Sadly, we can fall into ancestral mating patterns in competitive situations not related to sex at all, and not even realize it. (Next time, just push back a little. It’s okay, the world won’t end :-)
I want the “This is what a programmer looks like” graphic as a t-shirt!
