Long term, we can’t all just turn our backs on these problems and leave. Long term we need to fix them. Because what’s going to happen is that there will be a new place that will be a tech hub (or some other kind of hub) and they’ll be facing the same issues — local cities and local homeowners acting in their own self-interest and locking people out of living in job-rich areas. The problem isn’t just going to go away. It’s nationwide — you see it in cities all of the US. The Bay Area is just where it’s most acute but the same NIMBYism is hurting the middle class and the economy in almost every coastal city you look at.
