There are lots of cities in the world many times denser than Palo Alto with better public transportation and less traffic. It’s a policy decision to not invest in public transit here. That’s a choice we’ve made. It’s not a law of nature. We can make different choices in the future. And we’ll have to make different choices in the future as it becomes harder and harder to hire the people we need to give us medical treatment, come to our aid in an emergency, fix our cars, take out our trash, teach our kids, or simply serve us a burger. We simply can’t keep going as we’ve been — the dam is surely starting to crack on the sustainability of these price increases.
