Stress is a sudden biological change. It has become the curse of 21st century and is a silent killer in the modern world. Stress is the greatest danger to the information era. Stress is the priceless poison for human life in the universe. It can disturb any one’s physical, mental, emotional and behavioural balance. Stress is the number one lifestyle risk factor, ranking above physical inactivity and obesity.

WHAT IS STRESS AND HOW IT GETS ACCUMULATED

Stress is the body’s automatic response to any physical or mental demand placed on it. It is a subjective and unpleasant felling of distress. Every one gets affected by stress irrespective of their jobs, roles and responsibilities. Every job leaves some kind of residue in our body which may lead to stress. But the question is “How does one cope with it?”.

YOGA FOR STRESS RELIEF

Yoga is the most recognised form of stretching, aerobic and meditational practice. The definition of yoga is “to yoke or joint together”. It integrates the mind and body focusing on balance, posture, deep breathing, stretching and relaxation. Yoga alters stress response and person’s attitude towards stress.

METHODOLOGY

  • Mental calmness — yoga asana practice is intensely physical. Concentrating so intently on what one’s body is doing has the effect of bringing calmness to the mind.
  • Stress reduction — the emphasis yoga places on being in the moment will help relieve stress, as one learns not to dwell on past events or anticipate the future.
  • Body awareness — doing yoga will give an increased awareness of one’s own body leading to improved posture and greater self-confidence.
  • Pranayama — the breathing exercise helps to rejuvenate and to carry on the work with extra energy.

BENEFITS

  • Improving self confidence & work potential
  • Increasing one’s sense of well being
  • Creating a feeling of relaxation and calmness
  • Building better interpersonal relationships
