The ‘I’ Versus The ‘SELF”

The given moment that we are born, we are born into an unconsiouss construction of the “I”. We are born into a sex, a religion, a social status, preconditions and beliefs that have guided us into the path of the ‘I’ to differentiate us from the other. Teaching us to categorize and compare by measuring our identity of what we are and what we are not before are aware of it. That you, my friend, are not I because you believe in monogomy. We are not the same because, I, my friend, was born into the practice of polygamy. Therefore, you and I are seperate. You are the “other”.
I’ve become more aware of these built up layers of conditions that I’ve created and have been protecting my body with- not realizing that these conditions were (actually) creating seperation between the I and the Self; Disharmony between the I and the Others.
It’s with this rise in consciousness that I practice to listen and speak without judgement. To exercise empathy in such a way that grounds me back closer to my purest form of self; An egoless connection and understanding to all beings. Because in reality, there is no seperation between you and me. Together, we are ‘we’. Coexisting by supporting each other through u n i t y as the ever-present I Am: consciousness in its pure state prior to identification with form.
“The moment you become aware of the ego in you, it is strictly speaking no longer the ego, but just an old, conditioned mind-pattern. Ego implies unawareness. Awareness and ego cannot coexist.” — Eckhart Tolle
