Scaling a team from 1 to 9 team members in 12 months comes with growing pains.

Intake

I collaborated with our SDLC team to establish automation in Jira. For any Jira project in the org, when product sets “UX Design” to “yes” at the epic level, three design tasks are routed to a single Kanban board.

  1. UX Design
  2. UX Review
  3. UX Sign-Off

Establishing a design workflow

With a rapidly growing team, there were challenges in ensuring all members understood the next steps to move work forward. Together as a team, we established a workflow that we continue to tweak and iterate on over time. Design benefits from a streamlined intake process and clear next steps. The rest of the organization benefits from transparency into the status of design deliverables.

Accurate time tracking and capitalization

As an added benefit, designers can log time easily from the ticket they are working on, resulting in more accurate data for capitalization or planning.

Aligning Figma & Jira

When team members disagree on scope, tensions rise. I’ve found it valuable to eliminate ambiguity by aligning Figma & Jira. Design sign-off is a snap when you know exactly what you’re signing off on.

We align our Figma deliverables to Jira using label components that match the look & feel of our issue hierarchy in Jira, from Strategic Priority all the way down to user story.
