Hi Katherine,
Chuck Warren

A positive attitude is a great help in dealing with serious illness, and we have made huge strides in curing cancer. It’s also always important to remember that when you are told you have a 50 percent chance of being alive in five years that that means that half of everyone in your condition is still alive in five years. A half full rather than a half empty perspective. But I sometimes people feel that the cancer is their fault — they didn’t check out a lump soon enough, they skipped the colonoscopy — and that if it worsens it’s because they didn’t try hard enough, or fight hard enough. I loved your story and read every word with great admiration, but not everyone can win the battle — and they need to be reassured that it isn’t because they didn’t fight hard enough.
