“An Ape in Heels” is Worth More Than an Americanized Starlet

I think some of the sentiment about what makes a “real” First Lady is about women. Michelle Obama is strong and fit. She is out-spoken. She is smart. And she is an equal partner to her husband. She has been an inspiration to me and to my daughters. Apparently, though, that kind of woman, black or white, is threatening. Melania Trump is white, but also she is her husband’s third wife and 24 years younger than he is, she is quiet and unobtrusive, and she is incredibly, vulnerably thin. Is being subservient, quiet, and thin what makes her a “lady”? Personally, I prefer the example of Michelle Obama.
