Lindsay Zoladz points out, correctly, that Gaga gets this preordained judgment worse than her peers. Part of this is her adoption by stan warriors; she peaked when they did. But I think more of it is simmering resentment over having to humor Gaga’s every thought in 2010–2011. Every backlash is composed of things people basically thought already but repressed. Perhaps Gaga was too loud, too ambitious, too messy, too much of the things we seldom allow women.
