There is another reason your will cannot override your hunger drive, and not just your hunger drive but your desire for rewards in the form of food.

Only 18% of the thoughts in the human brain are conscious and subject to your will. The other 82% is unconscious. Not subject to your will. So basically your will is outnumbered 4:1.

The right kind of hypnosis can be very helpful with weight loss precisely because it lines up your unconscious thoughts with your conscious ones. So more of your brain, more of your desire is aimed at the common goal of eating less, eating better food.

The basic human subconscious runs all of our body, our defense mechanisms and survival, automatically. But that programming can be affected with good hypnotherapy sessions. Sessions in which you can determine what rewards you can substitute for the immediate rewards of eating. Possibly sessions where you can discover if and why eating is a form of protection for you too. Or even discovering subconscious reasons for sabotaging yourself with food and working those out, can have a large effect on how you eat.

I once knew a woman who discovered that her subconscious was keeping her fat in order to keep her husband from wanting sex. She got a divorce and her weight dropped off in the first few months and stayed off.

Another woman who figured out that her only childhood happy memories were her grandmother making her food, to calm her and make her feel better when her parents were fighting like banshees.

I’m not suggesting everyone’s issues are so simple. But if you investigate you may find that multiple parts of your brain are using food for something other than nutrition and eating pleasure. Underneath you may be using food for other emotional rewards. If you can substitute new rewards, including the rewards of being healthy, slim, active, able to do things you don’t now, it may be the assistance your will needs to prevail.
