SPOLIARIUM by Juan Luna

This is the first and the biggest painting I’ve ever seen inside the museum. For me Spoliarium give me the true definition of art. This masterpiece shows the sacrificies of the gladiors by having their strong faith. It represent different emotions from the past that gives a big value in our history.

El Asesmato Del Gobernador Bustamantr by Felix Ressurection Hidalgo

It shows the history of the government and the church, wherein there was a major conflict between them. The painting highlights Gobernador Bustamante being assassinated by being against the church.

Retablo ( Unknown Artist)

This one shows a unique structure of the Church during 18th century that is made of wood.

Rizal the Reformist (Martino A. Abellana)

Rizal (our National Hero) started to express his feelings and thoughts through writing because he is the type of a person who advocates gradual reform than revolution. He tries to improve a law by changing it.

Rape and Massacre in Ermita (Diosdado M. Lorenzo)

The painting reminds that this incident happened during the World War II. It shows that Japanese have no mercy by raping and killing a family.

It portray the life of the Filipino’s before. Wherein they are being controlled by soldiers, work hard for other people’s benefits and sacrificing their life during war.

Being artist is not all about paint brush you use or oil, paint and other stuffs to make it a masterpiece. Being an artist also need to express emotions and ideas that can give a big impact to the audience. This shows that being an artist is not easy it takes time and hard work.

It focuses on the lives of the Filipinos during Martial Law. Many families lost their loved ones, Filipino citizens are being controlled, many people fight for justice and put their life on risk.
