I asked a now 90-something woman who worked in the Bay Area during WWII (Rosie the Riveter) how women managed birth control then. She said that everyone knew who performed abortions and there was “practically one on every corner.” They were respected and valued and she “never heard of even one botched case.” Having a baby out of wedlock was total and absolute ruination for a young woman back then. Even in the ’60s and ’70s, it would be the end for a young university woman. May the gods bless and protect women’s rights!
